Three-vehicle crash in Martin County claims life of Hobe Sound woman

A three-vehicle crash at about 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 4, on SE Bridge Road in Martin County claimed the life of a 47-year-old woman from Hobe Sound, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said a Sport Utility Vehicle driven by a 17-year-old boy from Tequesta was traveling east on SE Bridge road approaching SE 138th Street when a pickup truck pulling a trailer driven by a 50-year-old man from Ontario, Canada, was traveling west on the same roadway.
A third vehicle, an SUV driven by the woman from Hobe Sound was also traveling west on SE Bridge Road, behind the pickup truck, when the east-bound SUV entered the west-bound lane and struck the trailer.
After striking the trailer, the SUV continued traveling east in the west-bound lane and collided head-on with the SUV driven by the woman.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The 17-year-old was taken to the hospital where he is in critical condition, troopers said. The driver of the pickup truck and a passenger in the pickup truck, also age 50 and from Ontario, received minor injuries, officials said.
