Florida boy, 13, killed in dirt bike crash

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. — A 13-year-old boy riding a dirt bike was killed in a crash, the Boynton Beach Police Department said.

On Sunday afternoon, Boynton Beach police said an officer tried to pull the boy over for driving recklessly on Boynton Beach Boulevard.

Officers said they attempted a traffic stop and the dirt bike went down in the 800 block of North Federal Highway.

It is unclear what happened next but police said there was a crash and the boy died.

Boynton Beach Police Chief Michael Gregory said there is no evidence that the officer hit the 13-year-old.

The police department is doing an internal investigation to see if the officer violated any policies.

The officer involved will be placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, which is department policy.

“Our hearts go out to the family members of this young person, and they can trust that we and our law enforcement partners will be conducting a series of thorough and meticulous investigations into the circumstances of what occurred,” Gregory said.

The crash is being investigated by the Florida Highway Patrol.
