Driver trauma-alerted after crashing into pole on Pine Avenue

A driver had to be trauma-alerted to a nearby hospital after crashing into a pole on Pine Avenue and causing a vehicle to erupt in flames.

Ocala Fire Rescue responded to a vehicle on fire in southwest Ocala yesterday afternoon, at around 3:30 p.m.

Ocala Fire Rescue’s Engine 3, Rescue 3, Tower 1, and Battalion Chief 22 responded to reports that a vehicle had crashed into a pole.

The single-vehicle accident occurred near the intersection of Pine Avenue and SW 17th Street. When crews arrived, they discovered an empty black crossover SUV resting in front of a store sign’s pole.

The vehicle was on fire, with heavy smoke and flames coming from the engine. A bystander had already removed the driver from the vehicle.

The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Medics prepared the driver for transport while the engine crews extinguished the flames. The driver was then trauma-alerted to the hospital.

The Ocala Police Department and Marion County Fire Rescue were also on the scene.

The name of the driver was not released.
