10-year-old Reddick boy struck, killed by vehicle on CR 318

A 10-year-old boy from Reddick was struck and killed while walking along County Road 318 this morning.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported the fatal accident this afternoon, stating that a 10-year-old pedestrian was killed while walking along CR 318, around 300 feet east of NW 110th Court in Marion County.

At around 6:50 a.m. this morning, a 1998 Ford Escort driven by a 34-year-old Silver Springs man was traveling west on CR 318.

The 10-year-old Reddick boy was walking west along the north edge of CR 318.

Once the eastbound traffic on CR 318 passed by the boy’s location, he started to cross the westbound lane.

The driver of the Ford Escort attempted to avoid a collision, but the front of the vehicle struck the boy.

After the collision, the vehicle veered off the roadway onto the north shoulder where it hit several mailboxes and trees before coming to a rest.

The driver sustained minor injuries.

The boy was transferred to UF Health Shands Hospital, and was pronounced deceased shortly after 7:30 a.m.

The names of the individuals involved in the accident were not released, per FHP policy.
