1 dead, 2 seriously injured after U.S. 19 crash in Hernando

One person died and two were seriously injured after a car crash at the intersection of Happy Days Drive and U.S. 19 on Friday evening, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a media release.

An 18-year-old Weeki Wachee woman was driving a sport-utility vehicle east on Happy Days Drive with a 67-year-old female passenger and stopped at the intersection of U.S. 19 at about 5:15 p.m. The driver turned left onto the highway and didn’t see a sedan heading south on U.S. 19, according to the statement. The sedan crashed into the left side of the car.

The 67-year-old woman was taken to a hospital where she later died from her injuries. The 18-year-old driver of the SUV and the driver of the sedan, a 25-year old Crystal River man, both suffered serious injuries.

The names of the people involved were not released by the highway patrol.
