Loxahatchee man, 22, dies from injuries in canal crash

LOXAHATCHEE — A 22-year-old Loxahatchee-area man died early Thanksgiving morning when his car landed in a nearby canal, the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office reported.

Paramedics declared Diego Fernando dead at the scene of the crash along N Road in Loxahatchee, west of Crestwood and Royal Palm Beach boulevards.

The crash report said Fernando was leaving a home located south of the canal around 4 a.m. when he lost control of his 2001 Ford Mustang “for an unknown reason.”

According to the report, he turned west onto N Road when his vehicle swerved right and drove over a dirt berm bordering the canal.

The vehicle then flipped over before landing in the canal.

Fernando was not wearing a seatbelt, and drugs and alcohol were found in the vehicle, according to PBSO’s report.

The report does not indicate how fast the vehicle was traveling at the time of the crash.
