Woman killed in motorcycle crash in Volusia County

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A 26-year-old Orange City woman riding as a passenger on a motorcycle died Wednesday night after the motorcycle was rear-ended in Volusia County.

Florida Highway Patrol investigators said the crash happened at 9:20 p.m. at Old New York Avenue and West Avenue.

Troopers said a 32-year-old Orange City woman driving an SUV failed to stop when the 1994 Harley Davidson driving in front of her slowed down to make a left turn.

Troopers said the woman’s SUV hit the back of the motorcycle. The woman riding as a passenger on the motorcycle later died at a local hospital.

Investigators said neither the 28-year-old driver of the motorcycle or the passenger were wearing helmets.

The crash remains under investigation.
