A Hawthorne woman was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer on U.S. 301 near NE 78th Place in Alachua County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report, a 41-year-old Lehigh Acres man was traveling northbound on U.S. 301 in a tractor-trailer on Monday at around 6 p.m.
For unknown reasons, the vehicle veered off the road and onto the right shoulder.
A 49-year-old Hawthorne woman was standing near a mailbox on the shoulder when she was struck by the front side of the tractor-trailer. She was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
The names of those involved in the accident were not released, per FHP policy.
