Police: Jacksonville motorcyclist dead after wreck caused by excessive speed ‘driving recklessly’
The rider was pronounced dead at the scene early Saturday after crashing into the curb and hitting a tree on Loretto Road in Mandarin.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla — A man is dead after crashing his motorcycle at about 2:40 a.m. Saturday in the 3700 block of Loretto Road. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the wreck was the result of the rider’s excessive speed. He was “driving recklessly” heading east on Loretto Road and lost control of the bike crashing into the curb and hitting a tree in the median, according to a JSO news release.
Police did not release the man’s name, but said he was in his 60’s. No other vehicles were involved.
Forty-six motorcyclist have died in Jacksonville this year compared to 24 this year, according to JSO.
