Teen girl seriously injured after being hit by car in Lee County
LEE COUNTY, Fla. – A 14-year-old Fort Myers girl was seriously injured after being hit by a car Tuesday afternoon.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers confirmed this happened at around 5:27 p.m. on SR 80 and New York Drive.
A 23-year-old Fort Myers woman was driving a car east on SR 80 in the outside lane, according to troopers.
The 14-year-old was crossing the street in the area and the car hit the teen.
“Me and my guys were sitting around the corner here, we heard something or someone get hit, I thought it was a car accident,” JT, the owner of JT’s Tires in Fort Myers, said.
His first thought was that two cars had gotten into a crash until he saw the 14-year-old girl lying on the sidewalk in front of his store. His security camera captured the moment the girl tried to cross the street but instead stepped in front of a moving car.
The girl was then taken to Lee Memorial Hospital in serious condition, but FHP confirmed she was stable when they checked Tuesday afternoon.
