Motorcyclist killed in US-41 crash
VENICE, Fla. – A Port Charlotte motorcyclist died after a crash on US-41 at River Road in Venice early Tuesday morning.
Around 5:35 a.m., the 24-year-old motorcyclist ran a red light at the intersection and crashed into a box truck that was passing through, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The Port Charlotte man was thrown from his motorcycle before he was pronounced dead on scene, troopers said.
A 26-year-old North Port man who was driving the truck was uninjured in the incident.
The intersection was shut down Tuesday morning while crews investigated the crash and has since reopened.
The Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit is continuing to investigate.
