14-year-old bicyclist dies after being hit by car in Port Charlotte
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — A 14-year-old boy was killed after he was hit by a car while riding his bike in Port Charlotte on Tuesday morning.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened just after 5:30 a.m. at the intersection of US 41 and Murdock Circle.
Troopers said a 23-year-old man from North Port was driving south on US 41 approaching the intersection when the boy tried to ride his bike across US 41 and crossed into the driver’s path.
The driver hit the teenage boy, who was not wearing a helmet. The boy was taken to the hospital where he later died.
Troopers said the crash is still under investigation and have not released the identities of anyone involved. No further information was immediately available.
