Man dies in El Jobean crash

EL JOBEAN – An 83-year-old Charlotte County man was killed in a crash when he drove into the path of a car Saturday afternoon.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the man has been westbound and was stopped at Hollis Avenue and State Road 776 at about 1 p.m. Saturday. FHP stated the man, driving a sedan, pulled into the path of a pickup truck being driven northbound by a 47-year-old North Port woman.

The sedan was pushed into a median. The driver was declared dead at the scene.

The woman driving the pickup sustained minor injuries.

Todd Dunn, spokesperson for Charlotte Fire and EMS, confirmed two vehicles were involved in the crash — a sedan car and a Ford F-150 truck.

Dunn said paramedics performed CPR on the male driver who suffered “traumatic injuries.” He was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where he died, Dunn said.

Eastbound traffic was temporarily rerouted while the crash was investigated.

The female driver involved in the crash was injured but refused medical treatment, Dunn said.
