Daytona Beach man, 20, killed in head-on crash on SR-44 in Lake County

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – A 20-year-old Daytona Beach man was killed Monday morning in a head-on crash in Lake County, troopers said.

The fatal wreck was reported at 6:15 a.m. on State Road 44 at Fentress Lane, northeast of Sorrento.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the man was driving an SUV west on S.R. 44 and traveled into the eastbound lanes for an unknown reason, striking a pickup truck head-on.

The SUV overturned, and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene, according to an FHP crash report.

The pickup truck driver, a 20-year-old Webster man, suffered serious injuries and was taken to AdventHealth Waterman.

The crash report said it’s unknown if the Daytona Beach man was wearing a seat belt.

S.R. 44 was shut down in both directions after the fatal crash.
