Police investigate two separate deadly crashes in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is working two deadly crashes on Friday night.

The first crash happened at the 10000 block of Atlantic Blvd. near Anniston Road.

This crash involved a vehicle and a pedestrian. Around 6:57 p.m., a woman who appeared to be incoherent was walking on the roadway when she was hit by a Ford Transit van.

She was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the van remained at the scene, along with other witnesses.

Police say the driver is not at fault.

The second crash happened at Sunbeam Road and Craven Road around 7:43 p.m.

A Chevy Silverado rear-ended a blue Mitsubishi sedan and afterward, the male driver in the Chevy fled the scene at a high rate of speed and lost control of the vehicle.

The driver struck a fence before the vehicle overturned. He was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

Police say impairment was a factor in the crash.

This is the 17th and 18th traffic fatality in Duval County this year, police say.
