Woman survives crashing under tractor-trailer in Fort Myers

A driver was taken to the hospital after her SUV became stuck under a tractor-trailer following a crash in Fort Myers Tuesday morning.

At around 6:30 a.m., the Fort Myers Fire Department arrived at the scene of the accident at Winkler Avenue and Evans Avenue.

FMPD crews, assisted by the South Trail Fire District and Iona McGregor Fire District, extricated the driver, only identified as a woman in her 30s, from the SUV.

She was transported to a local hospital with injuries While her exact condition is not known, police say the injuries were not life-threatening and she will survive.

FMFD Fire Chief Tracy McMillion said, “It was actually an SUV that got sandwiched underneath a semi-truck. Really really nasty accident, the crews were actually able to mitigate it quickly with a lot of good strategic plan, a lot of good direction.”

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
