A Punta Gorda woman died Friday night after she was hit by a car while she crossed the street.
A report from the Florida Highway Patrol said a pickup truck driven by a 34-year-old Cape Coral man was traveling west on Bayshore Road around midnight when he collided with the 26-year-old pedestrian.
The pedestrian was attempting to cross the westbound lanes of Bayshore Road and walked into the path of the approaching truck, FHP said in a press release.
The crash happened near Ixora Drive.
The pickup truck driver was not injured and was arrested for driving while under the influence. The man was booked into Lee County Jail.
