Englewood man dies after being hit by car in Port Charlotte
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — A 50-year-old Englewood man died after he was hit by a car in Port Charlotte on US 41 on Wednesday morning.
Florida Highway Patrol said the crash happened on US 41 near Melbourne Street around 6:50 a.m.
An 18-year-old North Port man was driving south on US 41 when the Englewood man tried to cross US 41.
Troopers said the 50-year-old man, who was a construction worker, walked into the path of the North Port man’s car. The worker was hit by the front of the car and was pronounced dead on scene.
Troopers have not released the identities of the man who died and the driver.
The crash, which forced the shutdown of the southbound lanes of the US 41 bridge, is under investigation.
