Sleeping man run over, killed in Bayshore Gardens Parkway crash

BRADENTON, Fla. (WWSB) – A 68-year-old Sarasota man was run over and killed as he slept alongside Bayshore Gardens Parkway early Monday, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Investigators say the man was sleeping in the grassy shoulder area, with his belongings and blanket, next to the road, at a curve near 62nd Drive West.

At about 4:50 a.m., a pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Bayshore Gardens Parkway approaching the curve. The truck, driven by a 40-year-old Bradenton man, went off the roadway and ran over the sleeping man.

The pedestrian died at the scene, Manatee County EMS said. The highway patrol’s homicide unit is investigating.
