FHP: I-75 crash involving trailer caused by driver who suffered a medical emergency
Florida Highway Patrol says some of the people involved suffered “minor” injuries.
RIVERVIEW, Fla. — A five-car crash Wednesday on northbound Interstate 75 was caused by a medical emergency, according to troopers.
It happened around 10 a.m. Wednesday on I-75 near Big Bend Road in Riverview. Troopers say the driver of an SUV was the one who suffered a medical emergency.
According to a press release, the driver lost control of the SUV during the incident and traveled across the highway before crashing into the center median’s guardrail.
To avoid the collision Florida Highway Patrol says the driver of a sedan slowed down but was rear-ended by the driver of a pickup. The second crash caused a chain reaction when the sedan rotated and hit another pickup truck on the road, according to a press release.
One of the pickup trucks was towing an Airstream travel trailer at the time of the crash. FHP reports that some involved in the crash suffered “minor” injuries.
The outside northbound lane of I-75 reopened a few hours later at 12:23 p.m.
