1 dead following crash in Venice

VENICE, Fla. (WWSB) – An 80-year-old Venice woman has died following a crash involving a commercial vehicle.

The crash happened earlier Friday afternoon at Rockley Blvd and Montrose Drive around 1 p.m., FHP Trooper Ken Watson tells ABC7. The location is south of Center Road near Lake of the Woods.

FHP says that a Nissan Sentra was traveling southbound on Rockley Blvd approaching the intersection of Montrose Drive in the right lane. An auto transport semi truck was parked in the right lane, south of the intersection, where the driver was making delivery of a customer’s vehicle. The woman failed to notice the trailer stopped in the roadway and crashed into the back end.

The driver of the Nissan was transported to Doctor’s Hospital and was pronounced deceased. The Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit will investigating the crash.
