Pedestrian killed while walking in roadway near Zephyrhills, troopers say
ZEPHYRHILLS — A pedestrian walking in the roadway was struck and killed early Sunday by a driver heading in the opposite direction, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The collision occurred at 4:25 a.m. Sunday northeast of Zephyrhills on a stretch of Old Lakeland Highway at Melrose Avenue.
The pedestrian, a male, was walking south in the northbound lane when he was hit by a 50-year-old Zephyrhills man driving a car, the Highway Patrol said.
The Highway Patrol was still searching for the identity of the pedestrian. The agency did not release the name of the driver.
