Pedestrian killed in accident on University Parkway

A 62-year-old man was killed early Saturday as he attempted to cross University Parkway in Sarasota and was hit by a car, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The Sarasota man, whose name was not released, was crossing University from the south to the north near Kentucky Street at 12:44 a.m. when he entered the path of a 44-year-old Sarasota man driving east, the highway patrol said.

The car struck the pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident caused two eastbound lanes of the road to be closed during the investigation.
