Driver killed while turning left across traffic in Tarpon Springs, police say

TARPON SPRINGS — A man died from injuries he received when he made a left turn in his car and was struck by an oncoming pickup truck, Tarpon Springs police say.

The crash happened just before 7 p.m. Thursday on East Tarpon Avenue and South Highland Avenue.

A man driving a 2019 Nissan Cube was headed north on Highland Avenue, trying to turn west onto Tarpon Springs, when he was hit by the driver of an eastbound 2014 Dodge Ram pickup, police said.

The intersection is in a residential neighborhood controlled by stop signs in each direction.

The driver of the Nissan died at a hospital from his injuries. A passenger in the car and the driver of the pickup were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police did not release the names of those involved in the crash.
