Woman, 62, dies in 5-vehicle crash on John Young Parkway in Orange County, FHP says
ORLANDO, Fla. – One person was killed Wednesday morning in a five-vehicle crash in Orange County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The wreck happened around 4:40 a.m. on John Young Parkway at Blackstone Drive in south Orlando.
The FHP said several victims were taken to hospitals, where one of them later died. The person who died was identified as a 62-year-old Orlando woman who was a passenger in one of the vehicles.
The driver of the vehicle the woman was in, a 70-year-old Orlando man, was taken to the hospital in serious condition, according to the FHP.
Two 29-year-old Kissimmee men, in separate vehicles, had critical and minor injuries. A 40-year-old woman in another vehicle had minor injuries and a 49-year-old Kissimmee man in the final vehicle had no injuries.
Details about the wreck have not been released and remains under investigation.
Residents who live on Burlington Drive, right across from where the crash happened, told they woke up from what sounded like an “explosion”
“I was asleep and suddenly I heard this huge sort of I thought something fell from the sky,” Lalit Bhardwaj said.
His brother, Vijay, said they have never seen a crash this bad and so close to home.
“I’ve been here 32 years and I don’t think I’ve ever seen this type of damage to the cars. This is really bad I mean there’s been accidents but this. Look at the shapes of the cars just frame left,” Vijay Bhardwaj said.
