Altamonte Springs man, 24, killed in crash on John Young Parkway

ORLANDO, Fla. – A 24-year-old Altamonte Springs man was killed early Friday in a single-vehicle crash that prompted an hours-long closure of a major roadway in Orange County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The fatal wreck happened around 2:40 a.m. on John Young Parkway at Forest City Road near Orlando.

The FHP said the man was driving a Honda Civic north on JYP when the car left the road for an unknown reason, struck a sign, traveled through the median and hit a railroad signal support structure, causing the vehicle to overturn and land on its side.

The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead the scene, according to an FHP crash report. His name has not been released.

Video from the scene showed the car crumpled in half and sticking upright from the ground near railroad tracks.

Northbound and southbound lanes of JYP were closed in the area but reopened four and a half hours later.
