4 construction workers, driver injured in I-4 hit-and-run in Orlando

5 victims taken to hospitals in stable condition

ORLANDO, Fla. – Four construction workers and a driver were injured early Friday in a two-vehicle hit-and-run crash on I-4 in Orlando, police said.

Orlando police said two vehicles — an SUV and a black 2016 Hyundai Sonata — collided on I-4 east near Par Street, injuring the workers.

Investigators believe the SUV was traveling east on I-4 when it hit the Hyundai. The car then bounced off a wall and hit the four road workers, according to police. The SUV drove off.

The workers and one of the drivers were taken to hospitals, police said. Two of the workers were badly hurt in the crash, while the other two had “less serious injuries,” according to a news release.

The driver of the Hyundai had minor injuries, officers said.

Police only described the SUV that drove off as being a newer model and dark-colored — no make or model was given.

Fuel spilled on the newly paved roadway, forcing crews to close I-4 for about two hours, police said.

Traffic was diverted off I-4 east at Princeton..
