Single-vehicle crash in rural NE Marion County claims life of Salt Springs man, 65

SILVER SPRINGS — A single-vehicle crash along a two-lane, rural Marion County roadway claimed the life of the driver Thursday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers on scene said a Chevy Silverado 1500 pickup truck was southbound on County Road 314 when it veered left.

The truck crossed the northbound lane and went to the east grassy shoulder. The front of the vehicle then slammed into a tree.

Troopers said the driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, died at the location, which is the 13200 block of Northeast CR 314.

Marion County Fire Rescue spokesman James Lucas said his agency received the call at 8:52 a.m. and arrived at 9:02 a.m. The man was pronounced deceased at 9:04 a.m.

Authorities said the victim is a 65-year-old man from Salt Springs. The patrol no longer provides names in its news releases.

Officials said it doesn’t appear that speed was a factor. The speed limit on the roadway is 55 mph.
