Pembroke Pines woman killed after walking into lane on I-75, FHP says

A 33-year-old woman from Pembroke Pines died Sunday after she was struck by a sedan on Interstate 75 shortly before 2 a.m., the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The 45-year-old man driving the sedan and a 60-year-old passenger, both of Miami, were heading north on I-75 on the inside center lane while the woman was walking on the inside shoulder of the highway, troopers said. She then walked out from the shoulder of the road and to the right, into the lane and was projected north back into the inside shoulder.

After the driver in the sedan collided with the woman, he quickly slowed, causing the car behind him to crash into them. The sedan then moved northeastward and came to a stop straddling the outside shoulder and outside lane, according to FHP.

The second car, an SUV with two 39-year-old men, a 60-year-old woman and children 8 and 11 years old, stopped on the inside and inside center lanes. The drivers and passengers in the SUV and sedan all had minor injuries, FHP said.

Pembroke Pines Fire Rescue crews took the pedestrian to Memorial Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

FHP is investigating the crash.
