FHP: 1 dead, 1 seriously hurt after car hydroplanes on Normandy Blvd.

The weather appeared to play a factor in a deadly crash Tuesday on Jacksonville’s Westside.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at 5:30 p.m., a 22-year-old Jacksonville man and an 18-year-old Middleburg woman were traveling eastbound on Normandy Boulevard at Yellow Water Road, when their car began to hydroplane due to the wet road.

Their black Lexus IS 300 then began to spin. A SUV that was traveling east on the same road was unable to avoid the car and struck the side of the car, the crash report stated.

The 22-year-old that was driving the car was taken to a hospital where he died. His passenger was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

FHP said the 40-year-old driver of the SUV and one of his 13-year-old passengers were also taken to a hospital. Both are expected to be OK.

Everyone involved in the crash was wearing a seat belt.
