A Cocoa Beach man trying to cross the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 near New Smyrna Beach early Tuesday was hit and killed by a semi, Florida Highway Patrol investigators said.
The victim was 28 years old, said FHP Lt. Kim Montes.
The victim earlier had crashed his car into a guardrail as he was southbound on I-95, Montes said.
He left his car, then tried to cross the northbound lanes of I-95 and was hit by the semi, Montes said.
The driver of the semi, a 55-year-old man from Jacksonville, was not injured, troopers said.
The crash remains under investigation, Montes said.
