Daytona Beach Shores police identify driver in hit & run crash that injured couple at bus stop
DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. — The Daytona Beach Shores Department of Public Safety has identified a woman they say caused a chain-reaction crash that injured a married couple as they waited at a bus stop, then left the scene.
Investigators say the husband and wife had just finished grocery shopping and were standing at the Votran bus stop in front of the Winn Dixie plaza on South Atlantic Ave. around 4 p.m. Wednesday.
That’s when police say 33-year-old Lauren Alyse Meyers pulled her SUV out of the shopping center parking lot onto Atlantic Ave. and slammed into the passenger side of a sedan headed southbound on Atlantic Ave.
The impact of the crash forced the sedan to go into a spin and hit a light post, then the Votran bus sign where the married couple was waiting for the bus.
Police say the man was able to push his wife out of the path of the sedan, but he suffered a severe head injury himself.
The man was taken to the hospital where he remains. His wife was treated for minor injuries.
The 20-year-old woman driving the sedan wasn’t injured.
Police say Meyers continued driving northbound after the collision. They would eventually find the car involved in the crash at her home, but Meyers was nowhere to be found.
Now, police say they have an active warrant for Meyers’ arrest, charging her with felony leaving the scene of an accident with serious bodily injury and tampering with evidence.
Investigators believe Meyers may have left the area. They’re asking anyone with information on where to find her to call 9-1-1 or contact Daytona Beach Department of Public Safety Sgt. Jessica Long at (386) 681-8463.
